Children’s Reading Tag Rugby Sessions Kick off at Prospect Park

Tag Rugby Sessions for Reading’s youngsters have kicked off at Prospect Park this week.

The one-hour sessions have been organised by the Reading Council’s Active Parks team and, starting last weekend, take place every Saturday at 11am on the park’s newly installed rugby pitch.

The sessions give young people the opportunity to get a taste of tag rugby, learn basic skills and drills, before perhaps trying full contact rugby.

The cost is £2 per person per session, boys and girls aged 8 to 15 years old are welcome to attend. Tag rugby runs throughout the winter up until April 2010.

The Reading Tag Rugby Coach will teach the rules of the game as well as movement, evasion, passing, scoring with a Tag Rugby Game at the end.

Graeme Hoskin, Lead Councillor for Reading Culture and Sport, said: "The Council’s Active Parks team run a lot of great sporting sessions at Prospect Park all year round. Now with tag rugby, there’s even more for young people to get involved with."

Tag rugby is of Active Parks’ weekly activity schedule.

Other sporting events taking place this winter including girls’ football, hockey jogging, buggy fit (for mums) and football for 4 to 8 year olds.
