Fourth arrest following Reading serious assault

Thames Valley Police has arrested a fourth man in connection with an incident in Reading where a man suffered serious injuries.

A 19-year-old man from East Reading has been released on bail to return to Loddon Valley police station on 16 February.

The victim, a 39-year-old man from Shinfield, was attacked in St Mary’s Butts, Reading at around 4.30pm on Tuesday 7 February.

He suffered serious head injuries and is currently in the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford in a serious but stable condition.

A 20-year-old man from West Reading, a 21-year-old man from East Reading and a 17-year-old boy from Charvil were arrested on suspicion of GBH last week and have been released on bail until 16 February.

Det Sgt Mark Carolan, who is investigating the incident, said: “Although we have made a number of arrest we still need to trace more witnesses.

“Officers will be carrying out anniversary checks in the area tomorrow (14/2), in an effort to speak to people who may have information that could help with our investigation.”
