Two events are to take place in Reading, so people with disabilities can get information about services available to them and give suggestions about what can be further improved.
Reading Borough Council’s Community Care team has organised a drop in consultation day on Monday, February 22nd, for people with physical disabilities and neurological conditions.
People who have suffered from a stroke, have Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, arthritis, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, Motor Neuron Disease, Huntingdon’s disease or head or spinal injuries, are invited to go along to the Holiday Inn, 500 Basingstoke Road, Reading from 10am-1pm.
Community care staff will be on hand to talk about the choice and flexibility people can experience by using direct payments to fund the support they need. Visitors will also be able to meet occupational therapy staff including specialist lead nurses from Royal Berkshire Hospital, who deal with MS and rare conditions.
On Tuesday, February 23rd, Reading Deaf Centre, in conjunction with the Council, is holding a drop in event for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
This will be a chance to meet the Reading deaf services team. British Sign Language and Sign Supported English interpreters will also be available so you can share your opinions on what you think about services for the deaf and hard of hearing in Reading, while finding out about support for you and your carers.
Details of the Council’s direct payments scheme and demonstrations on a range of specialist aids and equipment to enable people with hearing loss to stay independent, will also be available during the February 23rd event.
Mike Orton, lead councillor for Reading community care and health, said: "I hope many local people are able to come along to these events. Reading Borough Council is committed to offering people high quality support tailored to individual circumstances and it’s feedback from people who use these services that helps to achieve this."
