Festival goers can also dance and get into the party spirit thanks Beatroots Bateria samba dancers, the longest established group of its kind. The group have performed at major WOMAD, The Thames Festival and Live Earth at Wembley.
Reading Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Sport, Cllr Marian Livingston, said: “This will be the ninth time Meadows Madness will launch our iconic and much loved Children’s Festival.
“The festival always proves to be a wonderful success, but this Olympic and Jubilee year I am convinced it will be a Children’s Festival people will be talking about for years to come.”

Thoroughly Modern Millie @ Reading Hexagon
Running for 5 nights, The Sainsbury Singers are back at the Reading Hexagon in May, performing the light hearted comedic musical Thoroughly Modern Millie.
It’s 1922 and New York is full of intrigue and jazz. A time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behaviour were changing. Millie Dillmount arrives in search of a new life for herself, but Thoroughly Modern Millie soon finds herself embroiled in a more sinister side of the Big Apple…
Talented Kim Antell is again producing the show and is pleased with how Reading rehearsals are coming along. ‘The cast have all been working really hard, which they need to, as they are in a number of dance routines, including some tap dancing! It really does promise to be a thoroughly entertaining show’
Having had a break, the Society welcome back Trevor Defferd, who will be showcasing his undoubted skills as Musical Director.
The Reading lead role is performed by the exceptional talent that is Louise Quelch, who has featured in a number of previous productions by The Sainsbury Singers. This is her first as a leading lady and she is clearly looking forward to the experience. ‘I’m so excited to be playing Millie. The stage musical puts a sassy twist on the character that so many people know and love and I’ve really enjoyed playing up to that. It’s such a funny show; rehearsals have been a ball and I hope the audience have as much fun watching as the cast will be having on stage!’
Sainsbury Singers stalwarts Tricia Goodchild and Helen Long are Mrs Meers and Muzzy respectively with the leading male roles performed by Sean Faulkner as Jimmy with Chris Reeves playing Trevor Graydon.
It’s all set to be a fun, exciting and enjoyable show.
Tickets from £6 are available from the ticket office on 0118 988 2510. They can also be purchased from the Hexagon box office on 0118 960 6060.
