Caversham Court – Reading’s beautiful riverside gardens – will come alive with the sound of music next week with its first Christmas Carol Evening.
Reading Borough Council, which owns and maintains the gardens, and the Friends of Caversham Court Gardens, are hosting the musical festive treat on Monday, December 21st.
Singers from the choir of St Peter’s Church, Reading will perform a program of festive carols inside the gardens, near to the main entrance, from 7.30pm.
Visitors will be encouraged to sing along and join in the fun. To add to the festive cheer, mulled wine and mine pies will be on sale at Caversham Court Gardens’ new catering kiosk.
The kiosk is run by volunteers from various Reading charities who will be serving on the night.
If it’s raining, the Christmas Carol Concert will take place at nearby St Peter’s Church.
Caversham Court Gardens reopened this year following a £1.6million renovation, thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The garden’s restoration and archaeological investigations were carried out by Wessex Archaeology.
Graeme Hoskin, Lead Councillor for Reading Culture and Sport, said: "This carol concert at Caversham Court is going to be a real highlight of Christmas in Reading this year. The gardens are beautiful. They’ve always been popular but since the restoration, more and more visitors have been coming to see the gardens in all their glory. The Christmas Carol Concert will be a very special evening."
