Sports Sessions Kick off at Reading Prospect Park

Hockey and girls’ football sessions for Reading’s youngsters have kicked off at Prospect Park.

The one hour hockey sessions have been organised by the Reading Council’s Active Parks team and take place every Tuesday at 4.30pm on the park’s sand based astro pitches.

This is a good opportunity for kids to get a taste of hockey, learn basic skills and drills for a cost of just £2 each per session.

The girls’ football sessions are run by Meadway Football Club. The idea behind the all girls’ sessions is to introduce and make the sport more accessible for them. Sessions take place every Friday from 6.30pm–7.30pm – £2 per person, per session.

Football coaches will teach the rules of the game as well as movement, passing, shooting and tackling.

Graeme Hoskin, Lead Councillor for Reading Culture and Sport, said: "I’m delighted we’re able to offer such a huge range of activities and sports courses for young people in Reading. These have proven very popular in the past and are a great way to get a taste for a new sport as well as being great fun."

Young people aged 8-15 are welcome to go along any afternoon/evening and get involved – there is no need to book.

Both sports sessions are part of the Active Parks team’s weekly activity schedule. Other sporting events taking place this winter including tag rugby, jogging, buggy fit (for mums) and football for 4–8 year olds.
