Transport users across Reading are being invited to get involved in an upcoming workshop which will help to shape future transport planning for the area.
All local authorities are required to produce a Local Transport Plan (LTP) which contains objectives, policies and schemes related to transport in their area.
Reading Borough Council is approaching the end of its second LTP, which achieved the highest possible rating by the Government. ‘LTP 2′ runs from 2006 to 2011 and the Council is now pulling together its third LTP which needs to be in place for April 2011 and will run until 2014.
Reading Public transport users, drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists alike are now being invited to attend a special meeting of the Transport Users’ Forum next week where ideas for inclusion in LTP 3 will be included.
Tony Page, Reading’s Lead Councillor for Transport and Planning, said: "Past experience of consultation in Reading has been invaluable in helping to shape transport schemes and programmes. Much work has already been carried out in LTP 1 and 2 in gathering public opinions and much of that remains relevant. RBC is keen to take a fresh look at ideas and invite further feedback from the public and I look forward to a good attendance."
Last year the Department for Transport (DfT) published new guidance for LTP 3. All LTPs now need to reflect national transport goals at set out by the DfT, as well as goals that are of local importance. A series of consultation questions will be put to members of the public who attend the workshop designed to identify priorities, both local and national.
The Reading workshop takes place at on Wednesday January 13 from 6.30pm in the Council Chamber at the Civic Centre. All members of the public are welcome to attend.
